Wizard of Oz: Scarecrow

To keep myself occupied on the trainrides to work, I gave myself the assignment to redesign the characters of 'The Wizard of Oz'. Above some of the sketches I did sofar for ScareCrow.

As with the lifesketches, I used a 0.2 inkpen, and Photoshop for the digital color. Drawing with pens somehow streamlines my thoughprocess better, and forces me to think better about what I want to get on paper. If you're an artist, you should defenitely give it a try sometime!

Thanx to my collegue Gilles for making me switch to pens again :) Check out his blog at http://gillesketting.blogspot.com/, he'll appreciate it!

More stuff coming soon!

These look great! Nice work. What brand of pen do you use BTW? I've gone through a few duds and am trying to find something decent.

Forgot to ask about your choice of paper as well.

  3. Hey Dave! Thanx for stopping by, much appreciated :) As for materials, I used 0.2 and a 0.3 inkpens for these, from the brand 'Micron'. Here's a link where they can be bought online: http://www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=XSDK02-49/294.0.8816.9956.8789.0.0
I bought mine in a dutch store though. :)

As far as paper goes, I don't really give it much thought when it comes to these penscribbles, basic printing paper is as good as any.

For pencildrawings I switch to heavier paper though, otherwise you have holes in your paper from erasing quite quickly :) I hope this helps!
